Picks: Two Aussie Reds under $20

Two new great bottles from Australia: three or four years ago many Aussies got their foot in the door, but now we're getting smaller production, better wines.

Lengs & Cooter 2002 The Victor. 70% Shiraz, 30% Grenache, Clare Valley. Handmade using traditional methods. The Grenache softens it. Flavors of red berries, slight blueberry, soft oak elegant in style. 3000 cases produced, John Shirley has only 4 cases and won't be able to get it again, $15.99.

Mitolo Jester Tarlton 2001 Shiraz, from McLaren Vale. Jammier in style than the Victor, it has elegance, fuller body, plus a bit of brawn in the finish. About 4000 cases. WA 91, $19.99

Available at Mr. G's, Plano.
