Picks: Reds for Covino's under $15

DallasWine: Hey, John Shirley, I need a couple of zins to take to Covino's tonight--under $15. What do you like?

John Shirley: Seghesio Sonoma County 2001 Zinfandel, at a great price, $13.99. Last year, on sale this was $15.99.

DW: ...and?

JS: Rosenblum's Vintner's Cuvee.
Rosenblum's non-vintage zin gets a new label with a new cuvee number each time a blend is released, so you know when it changes. The juice comes from whatever's in the cellar -- odd barrels from various vineyards -- which means the blend is always different but the style is the same and it's always easy good drinking. Rosenblum released the newest, Cuvee XXV, in July, 2003, 13.5% alcohol, WA 89. The 11/15 Wine Spectator will name it a Best Value with a score of 86. $9.99
